Long-distance
Trains

Long-distance trains provide connections between the country’s main cities, covering medium to long distances. They are designed to offer travel comfort, with seats suitable for long journeys and, depending on the routes, additional on-board services.

They play an essential role in connecting economic, academic, and tourist hubs, helping facilitate business, family, and leisure travel, with regular trips, appropriate speed, and enhanced safety.

Regional Trains

Regional Trains

Regional trains are dedicated to inter-wilaya (inter-province) travel and serve a large number of intermediate localities.
They offer a frequency adapted to the daily needs of citizens, particularly students, workers, and regular travellers.
These trains help reduce isolation in rural areas, enhance local mobility, and support the social and economic development of regions.
They represent a practical, accessible solution that remains close to users’ needs.

Suburban Trains

Suburban Trains

Suburban trains serve metropolitan areas and their surrounding outskirts, particularly around major cities such as Algiers, Oran, and Annaba.
They are designed to meet daily commuting needs between home and work or home and school, offering high service frequency, closely spaced stops, and optimized travel times.
These trains help reduce traffic congestion, improve urban mobility, and provide a sustainable and comfortable alternative to cars or overcrowded buses.

ON-BOARD TRAIN SERVICES

SNTF is actively pursuing the modernization of its railway fleet in line with international standards, both in terms of on-board equipment and passenger comfort.
The goal is to provide a reliable, pleasant, and customer-focused service that meets everyone’s expectations.

ON-BOARD STAFF

Every day, around 222 ticket inspectors and 375 train chiefs operate on passenger trains across the entire network:

  • The ticket inspector checks travel documents and ensures the smooth progress of the journey.
  • The train chief is responsible for safety: equipment inspection, departure procedures, and overall monitoring of the train.
  • All staff members ensure proper passenger reception, information, comfort, assistance, and peace on board.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

All trains are equipped with:

  • Operational fire extinguishers;
  • Standard-compliant first-aid kits;
  • Stretcher with immobilization supports;
  • Functional alarm signaling system;
  • Secured and controlled access and internal circulation doors.
